Manydivers have relatives who are snorkelers. Many snorkelers simply prefer not to usetanks but would greatly enjoy seeing the world's best reefs. We have long servedsnorkelers, because the places we take divers can produce magical experiences forsnorkelers as well.

Now, more than ever, we want to reach out to those of your who prefer to swimfree with your snorkel and fins. We really have spectacular things to show you!

Where is the World's Best Snorkeling?

In most cases, it is at precisely the same sites as the world's best diving. In thesespecial places, a reef whose crest is just beneath the surface abruptly drops offinto deep, crystal-clear water. This combination of rich marine life at the surfaceplus clear water offers snorkelers a life of new adventures!

Which Destinations Offer the World's Best Snorkeling?

A few places stand out as the very finest snorkeling on the planet.

• The Red Sea from South of Hurghada to the Sudan border. These wondrous reefs rise out of deep, clear water to actually graze the surface. You can reach out and touch the coral, it's that close. • Palau -- At the farthest western limit of Micronesia lie some of the world's loveliest islands. They are surrounded by a sheltering outer reef which on its outer face drops into that classic clear ocean water we described above. Here, too, one can reach down and literally touch the coral for miles along the outer reef. There is no doubt that this is another Hall of Fame destination for snorkelers.

• The Whale Sharks of Western Australia -- Can you imagine snorkeling along, just above the massive back of a harmless, gentle whale shark? • Those of you who would like to dive or snorkel with humpback whales can join us in Socorro, The Silver Banks (Dominican Republic) or Tonga. In most cases, these cautious mothers with their calves must be approached using snorkels. However, on numerous occasions at Socorro, humpbacks have swum right up to divers! • Several of our other cruises offer marine life that rises to within ten feet of the surface, but not right to the surface. Among these are Australia/Coral Sea, Truk Lagoon, the Galapagos, the Solomon Islands, New Guinea's Coral Sea, and Papua New Guinea.
